Our Story: The Heart Behind Carol's Retreat
As an extension of Shay Babies’ mission to empower and uplift women, Carol’s Retreat will expand those services into a residential care home for pregnant teens, young mothers, adolescent girls, and female youth involved in the justice system. This will be a safe place to heal, grow, and begin again.
The heart of Carol’s Retreat is deeply rooted in the legacy of Carol and Wilson—a couple known for their unwavering kindness and open hearts. Their home was more than a place to live—it was a refuge. Whether it was a cousin in crisis or a neighbor in need of a warm meal and a place to rest, their door—and their hearts—were always open. Their “open door policy” wasn’t just a phrase; it was a way of life, lived daily with grace, dignity, and compassion.
On November 2, 2023, Carol passed away, leaving behind a profound legacy of love and service. In the days that followed, countless stories poured in from people she had comforted, cared for, and uplifted. She wasn’t just a mother and grandmother to her own family—she was a mother and grandmother to many. Her life touched hearts far and wide.
That spirit lives on through Carol’s Retreat. With every young woman welcomed into this home, her legacy of healing, grace, and open-hearted care continues—one life at a time.
In her honor, Carol’s Retreat will soon open its doors.
This home will be a refuge for girls who need more than shelter. They need healing. They need structure. They need a supportive community that will walk beside them. Just as Carol and Wilson did for so many, this home will stand as a testament to what love, guidance, and generosity can do.

Through life skills, parenting support, and structured programming, we promote growth, independence, and long-term success. This community-oriented area is home to nearby schools, including Hamblen Elementary School, Alice Johnson Junior High School, and Channelview High School, offering convenient access to education for residents.
